This exciting program resembles a cultural internship and includes all the best that our area has to offer. La Creuzette becomes your luxury base from where we visit several castles, gardens, markets, etc. Two enchanting villages crown the French tapestry History: we visit both Aubusson and Felletin for a comprehensive study of the ancient craft. In the evenings we gather around beautifully set tables and feast on the abundance of good food, wine, and friendship.



Cost Breakdown

€3 350 per person sharing (depending on the itinerary) and this includes:

  • Collection from Charles de Gaulle and transfer to La Creuzette
  • Luxurious accommodation at La Creuzette for the 5 nights / 6 days
  • Full board accommodation (i.e. all meals with drinks, also at restaurants we visit)
  • All excursions including entrance fees and gratuities
  • All cooking demonstrations and guest chefs
  • A day in the art studio with Louis (art materials included)
  • Transfer to Chateauroux at the end of the week and tain back to Paris


A non-refundable deposit of €1 000 secures your booking with the balance due on or before your arrival at La Creuzette. A single supplement of €650 for the week applies for single occupation.


Itinerary

Day 1 (Monday 23 September)

Early morning arrival where you are met at Charles de Gaulle airport or from hotels in Paris and road transfer to Château La Creuzette, your holiday residence in Boussac village. We stop for a delicious lunch at the famous l'Escalle Village. You arrive at your holiday destination in time for tea, coffee and mignardises (typically French confectionaries). Take time to settle in, relax and explore the grounds. We meet in the dining room of the summerhouse at 19h30 for a glass of champagne followed by dinner.


Day 2 (Tuesday, 24 September
)

Breakfast will be served at 09:00 in the main dining room. After breakfast, there will be a choice of whether to spend the day with artist, Louis Jansen van Vuuren in his La Creuzette art studio, or to go on an excursion to the beautiful village of Charroux. Guests wishing to spend the day painting with Louis, will meet in the art studio at 10:00. The whole day will be spent working on a project with Louis and creating your own artwork. Morning session from 10:00 to 13:00. Lunch at La Creuzette in the garden. Afternoon session from 14:30 to 17:30. Guests who wish to join Hardy on a day out to Charroux will visit several of the artisanal producers in this charming village. There is a mustard producer, an award-winning soap maker, producers of scented candles, superb jams, etc. etc. Perhaps we enjoy a picnic under the enormous tree on the Belvedere, overlooking the surrounding undulating landscape, or we can eat at one of the small bistros in the village. Later, we all meet for drinks in the garden of La Creuzette, followed by dinner.


Day 3 (Wednesday, 25 September
)

After breakfast, we drive to Felletin where we visit the Neolice studios. With their advanced technology, they are able to create fine tapestries mechanically. Many contemporary artist and designers use them for their artworks. From here we drive to the picturesque village of Aubusson where French tapestries and carpets have been woven and restored for centuries. Our first visit is the new Cité de la Tapisserie where superb collections of ancient and contemporary tapestries are uniquely displayed. It also showcases every aspect of the manufacturing process. We enjoy lunch at one of the restaurants on the banks of the river. After lunch, we visit Mme Chirac’s carton (tapestry pattern) museum. Chantal Chirac is known for restoring antique carton. We will also visit her studio where she has many beautiful cartons for sale.Back at La Creuzette, we meet in the summer kitchen at 19h00 for cocktails and a cooking demonstration presented by a guest chef. Dinner follows.


Day 4 (Thursday, 26 September
)

Market morning in Boussac. After breakfast, we meander through the colourful market stalls that are laden with fresh fruit and vegetables, fragrant soap from Marseilles and other artisanal products from the region. Here we find inspiration for our lunch menu. Using the fresh ingredients selected at the market, lunch will be prepared and enjoyed at the long stone table in front of the La Creuzette summer kitchen. After lunch, we take a leisurely walk to the Chateau de Boussac (Boussac castle), which dates back to the 11th and 15th centuries. Now privately owned, the castle is filled with a superb collection of exquisite furniture, tapestries, art, and artifacts. After a tour of the castle, we enjoy the rare privilege of visiting the owners’ private apartment, which is not open to the general public. Later, we meet for cocktails followed by dinner.


Day 5 (Friday, 27 September
)

Breakfast will be served at 09:00. After breakfast, we drive to the Abbey of Noirlac. A beautifully restored Cistercian Abbey complex, with pure uncluttered architecture that calms all senses. We spend the morning in this peaceful complex and enjoy a stroll under their age-old linden trees. From here we drive to Montluçon. We visit our wine merchant at his newly renovated tasting room for a special wine tasting and a traditional French lunch. After lunch, there will be opportunity to buy some special wines (and perhaps a good whisky with the help of a connaiseur) which you may wish to take home with you. We return to La creuzette where you will have some relaxing time at La Creuzette, as well as some time to packbefore we meet for drinks and our farewell dinner.


Day 6 (Saturday, 28 September
)

After breakfast, we take a short drive to the Priory garden at Notre Dame d’Orsan (this was the inspiration for the garden design at Babylonstoren in Franschhoek). We spend the morning in this magical garden. From here we depart for Châteauroux from where the fast train to Paris departs.
