Itinerary

Day 1 (Tuesday, 10 July)

Train or road transfer from Paris to La Creuzette, your château holiday residence in Boussac village. We stop for lunch at the famous l'Escale truck-stop. You arrive at your holiday destination in time for tea, coffee and mignardises (typically French confectionaries). Take time to unpack and explore the estate. We meet in the dining room of the summerhouse at 19h30 for a glass of champagne followed by dinner prepared by your hosts.

Day 2 (Wednesday, 11 July)

Breakfast will be served at 9am in the main dining room. After breakfast, we take the short drive to the picturesque village of Aubusson where tapestries and carpets have been woven and restored for centuries. Our first visit is the new Cité de la Tapisserie where a superb collection of ancient and contemporary tapestries are uniquely displayed. It also showcases every aspect of the manufacturing process. We enjoy lunch at one of the restaurants on the banks of the river and visit a master weaver’s studio, the carton (tapestry pattern) museum, and a restorer of antique masterpieces. Later, we meet for a glass of Champagne and our first music concert in the salon of La Creuzette. Dinner follows.

Day 3 (Thursday, 12 July)

Market morning in Boussac. After breakfast, we meander through the colourful market stalls that are laden with fresh fruit and vegetables, fragrant soap from Marseilles and other artisanal products from the region. Here we find inspiration for our lunch menu. Using the fresh ingredients selected at the market, lunch will be prepared and enjoyed at the long stone table in front of the La Creuzette summer kitchen. After lunch, we meet Rob, our English guide, who will take us on an interesting walk through medieval Boussac. We conclude the day’s activity with a visit to the 11th century Château de Boussac (Boussac Castle). The château is filled with superb antiques and tapestries. At La Creuzette a music recital has been organized. Dinner will be served in the summerhouse.

Day 4 (Friday, 13 July)

Today’s excursion is to Limoges – the porcelain capital of France. Our first stop is at the National Porcelain Museum with its fabulous exhibition of ceramic and porcelain dating back several centuries. There are also antique glass and enamel works in the collection. Lunch is enjoyed at a local bistro in town and thereafter we visit one of the contemporary porcelain manufacturers. We will also visit another Limoges manufacturer where one can purchase affordable gifts, before returning to La Creuzette. Entertainment for the evening includes a concert and a pre-Bastille day surprise.

Day 5 (Saturday, 14 July)

Bastille Day! After breakfast, today’s excursion takes us to the picturesque village of Apremont which is located on the banks of the Allier River. Listed as one of the most beautiful villages of France. It is home to the romantic French Folly Gardens filled with rare trees and floral borders; a Chinese bridge and a Turkish pavilion that seems to float at the edge of a lake. We have lunch at the Bistro de la Lavoir. Afterward, we amble through the quaint village. We return to La Creuzette to prepare for our music concert. Later, champagne will be served, before we sit down to our farewell Bastille Day feast.

Day 6 (Sunday, 15 July)

After a leisurely breakfast, we visit a brocante (country bric-a-brac and antiques market) where we hunt and forage for the best bargains. From here we depart for Châteauroux from where the fast train to Paris departs.

Please note that this itinerary may be amended to accommodate suppliers, service providers and the weather.
