Itinerary

Day 1 (Wednesday, 6 June)

Our program starts at the Orangerie Museum at 09h00 where you will be met by your hosts. Your luggage will be taken care of whilst Louis takes you on a guided visit of the world famous Monet waterlily cycle. Around 10h30, we leave for Giverny where we spend the rest of the morning at Monet’s garden. After a light lunch in Giverny, we continue our trip to the Loire region. We will stay over in a hotel in central Tours. An early dinner has been arranged.

Day 2 (Thursday, 7 June)

After breakfast, our first stop is at the Gardens of Villandry – the most beautiful kitchen garden in the world. We will also explore the SUN GARDEN before we continue down the Loire to Chenonceaux. After lunch, we visit the beautiful Château de Chenonceau (unusual floral arrangements adorn each room) and the resplendent gardens. At about 17h00, we continue towards our final destination and dinner-stop at the famous l’Escale Truckstop. After our sumptuous dinner, we drive to La Creuzette.

Day 3 (Friday, 8 June)

Breakfast will be served at 09:00 in the main dining room. Today’s excursion is to Limoges – the porcelain capital of France. Our first stop is at the National Porcelain Museum with its fabulous exhibition of ceramic and porcelain dating back several centuries. There are also antique glass and enamel works in the collection. Lunch is enjoyed at a local bistro in town and thereafter we visit one of the contemporary porcelain manufacturers. We will also visit another Limoges manufacturer where one can purchase affordable gifts, before returning to La Creuzette for tonight’s cookery demonstration and dinner.

Day 4 (Saturday, 9 June)

After breakfast, today’s excursion takes us to the picturesque village of Apremont which is located on the banks of the Allier River. Listed as one of the most beautiful villages of France.  It is home to the romantic French Folly Gardens filled with rare trees and floral borders; a Chinese bridge and a Turkish pavilion that seems to float at the edge of a lake. We have lunch at the Bistro de la Lavoir. Afterward, we amble through the quaint village. On our way back to La Creuzette, we stop at the Ainay-le-Vieille, a castle that has belonged to the same family since 1435. The rose garden has several rare specimens and the Chartreuse garden is quite unique. We return to La Creuzette for cocktails and dinner.

Day 5 (Sunday, 10 June)

After breakfast, we drive to the Priory garden at Notre Dame d’Orsan (this was the inspiration for the garden design at Babylonstoren in Franschhoek). After an hour in this magical garden, we have lunch at their new restaurant. We enjoy an hour or two of treasure hunting at one of the local brocantes (country bric-a-brac and antique markets) before we return to La Creuzette. Take time to relax and enjoy a walk in the La Creuzette park or explore the village before we meet for drinks. Dinner will be prepared by a guest chef.

Day 6 (Monday, 11 June)

After breakfast, we take the short drive to the picturesque village of Aubusson where tapestries and carpets have been woven and restored for centuries. Our first visit is the new Cité de la Tapisserie where a superb collection of ancient and contemporary tapestries are uniquely displayed. It also showcases every aspect of the manufacturing process. We enjoy lunch at one of the restaurants on the banks of the river and visit a master weaver’s studio, the carton (tapestry pattern) museum and a restorer of antique masterpieces. We return to La Creuzette for cocktails and our farewell dinner.

Day 7 (Tuesday, 12 June)

After an early breakfast, we say goodbye to La Creuzette and depart for Châteauroux where your fast train to Paris awaits.
