Itinerary

Day 1 (Thursday, 5 October)

Collection at Charles de Gaulle, from where we drive to La Creuzette, your château holiday residence in Boussac village. En route, we stop for a delicious lunch at the famous l'Escalle truck-stop. You arrive at your holiday destination in time for tea, coffee and migniardises (typically French confectionaries). Take some time to settle in to your room, explore the grounds and get to know your hosts. We meet in the ground floor salon at 7.30pm for a glass of champagne followed by a four-course welcome dinner prepared by your hosts.

Day 2 (Friday, 6 October)

Breakfast will be served at 9am. After breakfast, we drive to the beautiful town of Aubusson, which is famous for the tapestries that have been woven there since the 15th century. We will visit the new Cité de la Tapestry where we will learn more about every aspect of this art form, which is practiced by very few people today. We will also take a glance at a restorer of ancient masterpieces and will have time to walk around the beautiful town and take a look at the many small shops. Lunch will be enjoyed at a small bistro. After lunch we return to la Creuzette and en route we will stop to take a look at how nougat is made (with opportunity to taste, of course). When arriving at La Creuzette, we can relax for a few minutes before we put on our aprons and start cooking together from your hosts’ new best-seller, The Story of a House. Dinner follows in the summer kitchen’s dining room.

Day 3 (Saturday, 7 October)

After breakfast, we drive to nearby Montluçon where today is market day. We stroll through the beautiful medieval part of the village and, along the way, we visit our best wine merchant for some wine tasting and a cheese boutique that is listed in the Michelin Guide. At 12.30pm, we sit down to lunch at a lovely small bistro in the old village. After lunch, there will be some time to do shopping, before we return to La Creuzette. In the late afternoon, Louis will welcome you to his art studio for a demonstration and to show you what he is working on at present. For dinner, a special French barbeque is planned with Hardy at the grill.

Day 4 (Sunday, 8 October)

Today, we visit one of the most beautiful villages in France, Charroux, where we will visit several of the town's artisanal producers. There is a mustard producer, an award-winning soap maker, producers of scented candles, superb jams, and much more. Perhaps we enjoy a picnic under the enormous tree on the Belvedere overlooking the surrounding undulating landscape. We return to La Creuzette later for a cooking demonstration, followed by dinner.

Day 5 (Monday, 9 October)

After breakfast, we travel to the Royal city of Bourges. On our way, we will stop at the 12th-century Cistercian abbey at Noirlac where we will be guided through this marvellously restored religious complex. We continue to Bourges, where we visit the kitchen at Michelin-accredited restaurant Le Cercle, enjoy aperitifs in their wine cellar with the sommelier showing off their wines and later we sit down to a special lunch prepared by chef Christophe Lot and his team. (As an alternative, a more informal lunch at la Garguille restaurant is also an option, to give more time to explore this beautiful town). After lunch, a visit of the cathedral is on the programme. There will also be some time for shopping before we return to La Creuzette where a light dinner will be served.

Day 6 (Tuesday, 10 October)

Today’s excursion is to Limoges, the porcelain capital of France. Our first stop is at the National Porcelain Museum with its fabulous exhibition of pottery and porcelain dating back several centuries. There are also antique glass and enamel works in their collection. Lunch is enjoyed at a local bistro and later we visit one of the contemporary manufacturers (the visit will start in their former factory that will take your breath away). We will also visit another manufacturer, where you can buy affordable porcelain gifts before returning to La Creuzette and guests may start getting ready for their return journeys. As the sun sets, we enjoy cocktails, followed by our farewell dinner in the summer kitchen dining room.

Day 7 (Wednesday, 11 October)

After a leisurely breakfast, we head for Châteauroux station where you board the train for your return journey to Paris. When you arrive in the capital city, the day is yours to do as you please until you leave for the airport.

Please note that this itinerary may be amended to accommodate suppliers, service providers and the weather.
